Hello, I am a certified adult (20 years old)! I've noticed some adults, specifically individuals at my university, are not educated in the ways of adulting.
I'm sure some of you will know these things, but I think it's better to stay on the safe side and inform anyways!
Most of you are underage, so I hope that this can be helpful for when you are older. It is also a way for me to let go of my frustrations through passive aggressive posts lol.
Do I sound like a mom right now? YES. Do I care? NOPE, as long as I can provide some help to all of you.
And if you don't like this thread, then you don't have to read it, I don't mind.
So let's begin this comedic journey of basic adult tasks!

1. Clean the Lint Trap After Using The Drier
I posted a status about this, but I figured this would be a good place to start.
Once upon a time, in my freshman year of college, several individuals were not cleaning the lint trap after they used the communal driers. This started a minor fire and prevented the rest of the building from doing laundry for a bit!

So what is a lint trap?
Dryer+Filter.jfif

When you have a load of laundry in the drier the lint trap collects this grey dust stuff called lint. After the cycle is over you need to clean the lint off of the trap. Don't worry it's not gross. It's basically sanitized anyways due to the high hearts.
If you continually do not clean the lint trap every time you do laundry, the lint will build up and a fire can be started. Very dangerous, am I right.
If you live in a place where other people are using the dryer, I would recommend you check the lint trap before using it, cause people (like those that live in my dorm) tend to forget to do so.
So, don't be like the dumb kids in my freshman year college dorm! Just empty the lint trap! 💜

2. The Wonders of Baking Soda
Baking Soda has several purposes besides cooking!
0003320001110

If you put it in your refrigerator it helps eliminate bad smells. However, you need to replace it once the smell starts acting up again.
An even more useful aspect of Baking Soda is how it can extinguish grease fires.
Grease fires happen when you are cooking with oil and it gets so hot that it starts to boil. Then you'll see some smoke and then fire.
DO NOT PUT IT OUT WITH WATER!!
Oil and water do not mix, so the water does nothing and causes the oil to splash around when you pour the water, making the fire spread.
So what you do is pour Baking Soda on the fire. This will smother it, depriving it of the oxygen it needs to burn.
This is an even better reason to keep it in your fridge, easy access.
There are other uses of Baking Soda, but I find these to be the most important.

I knew it was used for brushing teeth and cleaning surfaces but I didn't know it could be used for putting out fires, thanks for the info!

3. How to Check Your Tire Pressure
So, not all of you know how to drive, but this is still a very important.
Maintaining good tire pressure is important to avoid a flat tire, which are not fun to have to change.
So, you should check your tires pressure every month.
The way you do this is with something called a Tire Pressure Gauge.
18749066-44da-487c-bb1c-6dd44408baa1_1.62ddd6672b892ea8b2dabbbce860684d.jpeg

It typically will look like this.
First what you need to do is find out what your car's recommended PSI is.
PSI stands for Pounds per Square Inch, but that is not important.
The PSI will usually be listed on a sticker that is located on the edge of the driver's seat door. If you can't find it, then it should be in your user's manual. That should be in your glove compartment,
How-to-find-recommended-tire-pressure-inside-your-car.jpg

So on this sticker it says 33psi.
Now you go to your tires and screw off the little cap where the tires are inflated. You stick the gauge on the opening, and the air will push out this kind of ruler looking thing. If you look at the ruler thingy, it will show you what your tire pressure is depending on how far it pushed out.
If it is measuring your PSI or higher, then that's fine. If it's lower then you need to go to a gas station to add some air to your tires.

This one was hard to explain because of all the terminology, but I hope this is helpful!

4. Things You Should Always Keep in Your Wallet
First of all, any time you go anywhere you should have your wallet with you.
Here are somethings you should always keep in it!
-Cash
Well duh, you need money. But instead of just carrying debit/credit cards, you should carry some cash to. Some places don't accept cards, so it's important to have cash. Also change. This can be good for vending machines.
-Credit/Debit Cards
If you have one, you should keep it. You never know if you need to buy something out of emergency.
-Drivers' License/ID
Carrying an ID is really important if you need to go somewhere your identity needs to be verified. You should also also have your drivers' license when you are driving especially. You never know when you could get pulled over or if you get into an accident. Another good reason to have an ID with you is if you randomly pass out and you are by yourself. How are people gonna know who you are and how to help you?
-Insurance Card
It's important to have this if there is ever a medical emergency.
-A List of Emergency Contact Numbers
This is similar to the ID thing. If you are every incapacitated, people can call these numbers and contact your loved ones for help.

Some things you shouldn't carry:
-Social Security card

If you get pick pocketed then someone can easily steal your identity.
-Any list of passwords or important numbers
Again with pick pocketing, you could get hacked.

That's all for today!

Another thing about carrying cash is that it helps you save money since you know how much money you physically have versus a credit card

Thinking about the fact that I haven't owned nor carried a wallet since I was 13. I just throw my stuff in a purse and call it a day 💀
