Some kpop fans aren't happy with fan made color coded lyric videos of kpop songs being posted and they demand them to be taken down as they feel that the uploaders are stealing the music and money of their favorite idols. They aren't happy when fans are streaming the color coded lyric videos instead of the original ones and when big channels like Jaeguchi or Lemorings etc. use long outros so they can monetize their videos (meaning earn profit from the songs) . They recently uploaded BTS's "Dynamite" and TWICE's "More and More (English ver.) " on YouTube and they usually earn lots of views generally quickly.
Other fans don't have a problem with the creation of lyric videos and like it since in that way they can learn the language and sing along better.
What do you think?
disclaimer/my opinion:
As someone who knows how to make color coded lyric videos also I don't think all channels should be taken down but those who try to profit from the song as if it's their own have to.
It's not easy to create them and it can take even hours to complete them so it's not like they' re not doing anything. I first read about this issue on allkpop but I read comments that say that even if you use outros as long as the music is copyrighted by the owner you still can't profit from it. I'm not 100% sure how this works , I only shared what I saw and these were not my own words even if I didn't copy-pasted it. I just found it interesting to discuss and view your opinions.
I like the videos, they help me to learn more about the song. I'm kinda on the fence with the monetization issue. As someone who knows how to make colorcoded videos, I know how much time and effort it can take to make them. I often find myself thinking that I should get paid for this. But on the other hand, the song it is based off of takes much longer and much more effort to make, so I think they should be copyrighted. If they want to try to get sponsored, and make money that way, then it's fine. They just shouldn't get monetized purely from the video.
But they shouldn't take down the videos, or close the channels. They just need to enforce copyrighting better.
A lot of people, including myself rely on those videos.
Yeah, I don't see the problem. Like @Lost_in_the_Dream said, a lot of us rely on those videos, since finding lyrics for kpop songs can be a daunting task. I don't think they should stop making them, but that's just my opinion.
I use color-coded videos to help me differentiate between members voices, even though they're not always accurate. I'm aware of fans complaining about the videos stealing views, so I always stop the videos before the outro to prevent them from gaining views from me.
I said this in the "bad place" and got down voted for it lol but i'll say it here as well
I don't see the big issue, unless they are flat out stealing I really don't see it. I have used those videos numerous times to help me identify a singer that i want to know more about while watching the official music videos, when i can't figure it out i go to a lyric video, find the part i'm trying to figure out and compare who's who. it's helped me learn my favorites and enjoy the music, also knowing what they are saying helps as well. I really don't see a problem with them as long as people are being honest about it. And I always assumed they put some kind of ending music so people wouldn't illegally try to download the videos, if they did they'd have some ending music that's not part of the song after it. Just my opinion.
There's been multiple times i'm like WHO'S THAT SINGING and i try to match pictures and it never works so i go to one of the lyric videos and find the part i'm at and go OH that's the person singing okay.. so i mean i don't think they are bad but if they are getting money for this than make it so they don't. I mean why take em down.
For me,i usually download the video, the size is just MP3 song size(480p quality size usually under 10mb). u can listen it anytime when u don't have internet,or simply Googling the lyrics, there is a lot of lyric site, some of them also have part explain. If they really steal the money,i'll support their demand... because it's about my idol too ,i just want something good for their them and their hardwork(the idol),not hate but isn't the idol work more hard ?and they're just enjoy the money (of they really steal the money).
videos like that are really good for learning the voices of members and lyrics and I don't see a massive problem but just the fact that they don't disclose that they are profiting off these videos, I find it very underhanded and sneaky because I would have no idea if it wasn't for Johnny's video.
So I think they should say in the description if they are making money from it so then people can decide whether to continue viewing this channel's videos
Lemoring one of the biggest lyric channels put out a statement they will no longer make any profit from other artist's lyrics on their channel.
Here is the full statement https://www.youtube.com/post/UgxpZsRA3MLQM5W-SWt4AaABCQ
I think it's pretty good and I'll definitely only be watching their lyric videos from now on.
I love these videos. They not only help me learn what the frik my favs are singing abt, but also help me distinguish who is who, especially if there's like 12 members and two look similar.
as long as rexolyrics and random_k doesn't get taken down im cool
(also rexo and random didn't do anything bad but since stans/fans are demanding CHANNELS in general just channels to be taken down other color coded youtubers who did nothing could be taken down)
