the YOASOBI x ano collab was a surprise but definitely welcome one!

the reason for it is they are both voicing the main characters of the movie Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction so they are also doing the OST, i haven't watch it yet but for what i heard has a similar plot to the movie District 9

i think i watched the movie only once? basically an alien ship escape from their planet crashed on earth and the people decided that the best way to deal with them is to shove them into a refugee camp where they are discriminated you could make comparisons with real life situations like gaza or south africa (i think the movie is actually set on the later) is not exactly well executed but i think is still good

about Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction i haven't watch the movie yet i did read one of the author's other works Oyasumi Punpun

the later basically it's about a boy who has to deal while a lot of issues related to growing up, dealing with trauma, grief, he starts in school and the manga goes all the way until he is in college

the cute thing about is that the main character is never fully portrayed instead in all his scenes he takes the image of a bird like figure yet all other characters look normal and interact normally with him, the readers are simply watching a representation of his inner self

i think it was in Netflix and Prime but that depends on which country you live, seems at least in NA is just on AMC+ which i didn't even knew was a thing

i went back to check the manga again (haven't read it since 2016 or so) and honestly is extremely depressing



also has to many instances of domestic violence for example i remember punpun's father hitting his mom was a huge plot point early in the series but there are other such cases later in the story, honestly kinda hard to recommend with that in mind but the series it's complete on Mangadex

i think i first heard about the manga because one member of SCANDAL (Mami?) used to publish a weekly / monthly column of the series she read, that was around 2016 or so, i think it was her because not much ago she also recommended Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction by the same author

it's always the ones with cute art that end being depressing! unfortunately it doesn't has any the author's first animated story is Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction but i wouldn't be surprised if in the future his other works get an anime or movie

another that i really like and that does has an anime is "Girl's last tour" unlike punpun is doesn't feature violence and is not as depressing but due to the setting (the fall of civilization) it does has lots of sad moments, basically two friends trying to make the best of the situation and going on silly little adventures but there is the underlying theme of loss and sorrow
