Do you consider an individual who only stans BTS (or just one group) to be a kpop stan?
Because of how popular kpop, specifically BTS, is in the west, I feel like a lot of people just hop on the trend for the sake of it. They only have exposure to BTS, so that's the only group they follow. But they don't stan any other groups. Does this make them a kpop stan.
Also, this doesn't just go for BTS, it could be any group or solo artist.
Personally, I don't think you can be a kpop stan if you only like one group and you don't get into the stanning culture. You're merely just a fan of the group.
My mom showed me an article a while ago about this girl who had won a singing competition or something and said she liked BTS. When asked what her favorite song was she said "Heartbeat". This was part of their BTS World soundtrack. It was aimed towards international fans, and that song had just came out at the same time as that article.
I would not consider her a kpop stan in that moment, or maybe not even a BTS on. It seems like she might have been just using the group of clout based on song choice. Or maybe I'm wrong and she just really liked that song over the rest of the discography they've built since 2013.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk lol
