I feel like one of the biggest scandals of 2024 was former NCT's Taeil's scandal. If you haven't heard, in August of 2024, Taeil was removed immediately from NCT due to a huge crime he committed with 2 other people (I will not specify what it was; look it up if you're so curious).
If you've kept up with the news since then, you would know that he was able to face up to 7 years in prison, which still isn't enough in my opinion but it is what it is. On July 10, 2025, the sentencing took place, and Taeil was sentenced to 3 years and six months in jail. Hearing this, Taeil and his legal team immediately filed an appeal.
On September 17, 2025, the first hearing of the appeal for the three people involved in the crime, including Taeil, was held at the the 11-3 Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court. The prosecution on Taeil's side stated that the first trial’s three-and-a-half-year sentence was "unfair".
In the closing argument, Taeil stated, and I quote, "I acknowledge all my sins and reflect on them. Above all, I know that words or actions cannot completely heal the wounds the victim feels. Nevertheless, I take this opportunity to offer my sincere apology... I will live the rest of my life atoning for my sins. I will never commit a crime again. I will live honestly, never forgetting the weight of the law. I once again apologize for the harm I have caused. I am truly sorry.”
Taeil's sentencing date has been set for October 17 at 2:30 PM KST.
