I wrote this a while ago, and it's just sitting in my notes, so I'll share. I'm lowkey nervous sharing, but uh, yes.
It's kind of angsty, but eventually there will be fluff.

CHAPTER ONE: Cracks in the Mirror

The mirror was merciless.

Felix stood in front of it, sweat dripping down his temples as he replayed the chorus for what felt like the hundredth time. The music blared from the speakers, but no matter how hard he tried, his steps felt a second too late, his movements stiff, his expression fading.

“Again,” he whispered to himself, pressing the replay button on the remote with shaky hands.

His chest ached, lungs burning, but the thought of stopping made his stomach twist. Everyone else picked things up so quickly. Everyone else looked sharp. He was supposed to match them. He needed to match them.

From the doorway, Hyunjin leaned silently against the frame, arms crossed. He’d been watching for several minutes, unnoticed. At first, he thought Felix just wanted extra practice, but now… now he could see the way Felix’s shoulders sagged, how his jaw tightened every time he glanced at his own reflection like it was an enemy.

“Lixie.”

Felix startled, the music cutting off abruptly. He turned, breathless, strands of blond hair plastered to his forehead. “Oh—Hyunjin. I didn’t know you were still here.”

Hyunjin stepped into the room, his expression unreadable. “What are you doing? It’s past midnight.”

Felix forced a laugh. “Just… fixing a few things. I’ll be done soon.”

“You’ve been in here since practice ended.” Hyunjin’s voice was firm, but not harsh. His eyes softened as he stepped closer. “You’re overworking yourself.”

Felix looked away, hugging his arms around himself. “I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not.” Hyunjin’s tone dropped lower, quiet but sharp enough to cut through the silence. “I can see it, Felix. The way you’re pushing yourself until you break.”

Something inside Felix wavered. His throat tightened, but he forced the words out anyway. “I have to. If I don’t get it right, I’ll hold everyone back. I’ll hold you back.”

Hyunjin froze, staring at him like the words had knocked the air out of him. He took a step closer, closing the distance until Felix couldn’t avoid his gaze. “Don’t you ever say that again.”

Felix blinked, startled by the intensity in Hyunjin’s voice.

“You don’t hold me back,” Hyunjin continued, his voice trembling slightly. “You’re the reason I push myself harder. You’re the one who keeps me grounded. Without you—” He stopped, biting down on the words, afraid of saying too much.

The silence between them was heavy, filled with everything neither of them dared to say. Felix’s chest ached, but for the first time that night, it wasn’t from dancing.

Hyunjin sighed, softer this time, and reached out. His fingers brushed Felix’s wrist, tentative, as if asking permission. “Please… don’t tear yourself apart like this.”

Felix swallowed hard, fighting the sting in his eyes. He wanted to argue, to tell Hyunjin he was fine, but the way Hyunjin was looking at him, like he mattered, like he was more than his mistakes, made the words crumble on his tongue.

For a moment, Felix let himself lean into the warmth of Hyunjin’s touch. Just a moment, before pulling away.

“I’ll… try

Hyunjin didn’t push further. He just nodded, but the worry in his eyes lingered.

As they walked out of the practice room together, Felix glanced at the mirror one last time. The cracks he thought he saw in his reflection earlier felt a little less sharp, if only because Hyunjin had seen through them.

CHAPTER 2: UNSPOKEN WORDS

The dorm was unusually quiet that night. Most of the members were already asleep, but Felix found himself wide awake, curled on the couch with a blanket draped over his shoulders. His phone screen glowed faintly in the dark as he scrolled aimlessly, though nothing really registered. His mind was still stuck in the practice room.

He hated the silence. It left too much room for the voices in his head.

You’re not good enough. You’re falling behind. They’ll regret keeping you.

“Can’t sleep?”

Felix nearly jumped. Hyunjin stood in the doorway, hair damp from a late shower, a loose sweater hanging off his frame. He looked half-asleep, but his eyes still sharpened with concern the moment they met Felix’s.

Felix tried to smile. “Just… not tired, I guess.”

Hyunjin padded over and dropped onto the couch beside him, stealing half the blanket without asking. “Liar.”

Felix let out a small laugh. “You always call me out.”

“Because I know you,” Hyunjin replied simply, his voice low in the dim light. He tilted his head, watching Felix closely. “You’ve been different lately. Quiet.”

Felix’s throat tightened. He wanted to brush it off, but Hyunjin’s gaze felt impossible to escape. “I just… don’t want to make things harder for anyone.”

Hyunjin frowned. “You think being honest with me would make things harder?”

The words hung in the air, heavier than they should’ve been. Felix looked down at his hands, twisting the blanket between his fingers. “Sometimes it feels like… I’m not enough. Like, no matter how hard I try, I’m always a step behind.”

Hyunjin was silent for a long moment. Then, without warning, he reached out and gently took Felix’s hands, stilling them. His touch was warm, grounding.

“You’re wrong,” Hyunjin whispered, voice steadier than Felix expected. “Do you know what I saw the first time you walked into the company? You were terrified, you could barely get a word out in Korean—but you still smiled at everyone. You still tried. That’s who you are, Felix. You never give up, even when it’s hard.”

Felix blinked, stunned into silence. He hadn’t expected Hyunjin to remember those early days so clearly.

Hyunjin’s expression softened, but his grip didn’t loosen. “And I—” His voice faltered, catching on the words. He looked down, lashes casting shadows on his cheeks. “I don’t want you to hide from me. Not when it’s you.”

Felix’s chest tightened painfully. There was something in Hyunjin’s tone, something raw and unguarded, that left him breathless.

He wanted to say something—thank you, I need you, I feel the same—but the words stuck in his throat, too heavy to speak aloud. Instead, he squeezed Hyunjin’s hand back, just once, hoping it said what he couldn’t.

For a moment, that was enough.

They sat in silence, sharing the blanket, the weight of unspoken words hanging between them like a fragile thread.

Felix didn’t sleep that night, but for the first time in weeks, the voices in his head weren’t quite so loud.

CHAPTER 3: The B r e a k i n g Point

Felix sat on the practice floor, sweat plastering his shirt to his back, his chest heaving as the choreography replayed again in his mind. No matter how many times he tried, he couldn’t seem to catch the rhythm. Every mistake echoed louder than the music.

The room was spinning.

He buried his face in his hands.

Why can’t I just get it right?

The door slammed open. Hyunjin stormed in, eyes blazing.

“Enough.”

Felix flinched, looking up in shock. Hyunjin rarely raised his voice—especially not at him.

“You’ve been here since morning,” Hyunjin said, striding across the room. His voice cracked with frustration. “Do you even realize what you’re doing to yourself?”

“I’m practicing,” Felix shot back, more defensively than he meant to. “I have to—”

“No, you don’t!” Hyunjin snapped. “You don’t have to destroy yourself just to prove something.”

Felix’s chest tightened. “Easy for you to say. You’re always perfect, Hyunjin. You don’t know what it’s like to be the one dragging everyone down!”

The words slipped out before he could stop them, sharp and ugly. The second they left his mouth, regret burned in his throat—but Hyunjin’s expression froze, wounded.

“You think I’m perfect?” Hyunjin’s voice was low now, almost trembling. “Do you know how many nights I’ve stayed up convinced I’ll never be good enough? Is that the only reason people notice me is because of how I look, not how hard I work?”

Felix blinked, stunned. He’d never heard Hyunjin admit something like that.

Hyunjin’s fists curled at his sides. “Don’t you get it, Lixie? You’re not the only one fighting. You’re not the only one who feels like they’re failing.”

The silence that followed was suffocating. Felix’s anger dissolved into shame, guilt pressing down on him like a weight.

“I…” His voice cracked. He couldn’t meet Hyunjin’s eyes. “I didn’t know.”

Hyunjin exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. The fire in his eyes dimmed, leaving only exhaustion. “Of course you didn’t. Because you never let me in. You’d rather suffer alone than admit you’re hurting.”

Felix’s chest ached. He wanted to argue, to defend himself, but Hyunjin was right.

Tears stung his eyes before he could stop them. “I just… I didn’t want to burden you. You already carry so much. I couldn’t stand the thought of being another weight on your shoulders.”

Hyunjin’s expression softened instantly. His anger melted into something far more painful—heartbreak.

“Felix,” he whispered, stepping closer. His hand hovered in the air before finally settling against Felix’s cheek, wiping away the tear that had slipped free. “You’re never a burden to me. Never.”

The touch unraveled Felix completely. He choked back a sob, leaning into Hyunjin’s hand like it was the only thing holding him together.

Hyunjin’s voice shook as he continued, “You’re the person I—” He stopped himself, biting his lip, the rest of the sentence swallowed. “You’re the person I want to carry with me, not push away.”

Felix’s heart pounded, a fragile mix of pain and hope. He didn’t know what to say, so he didn’t. He just let Hyunjin pull him into his arms, their bodies trembling as the weight of everything finally broke free.

And for the first time in a long time, Felix didn’t feel like he was drowning alone.

CHAPTER 4: Quiet promises

The dorm was dark, save for the faint glow of the streetlights slipping through the blinds. The other members were asleep, their soft snores and shifting breaths creating a gentle background hum.

Felix lay awake, staring at the ceiling. His chest still ached from earlier, the argument, the tears, the way Hyunjin’s voice had cracked when he said, ¨You’re never a burden to me.¨

He rolled onto his side, trying to chase sleep, but the weight of unspoken words pressed heavier than any blanket.

A quiet rustle broke the silence. Felix turned his head to see Hyunjin slipping into the room, his hair messy, eyes heavy-lidded with exhaustion. He hesitated for only a second before padding over and sliding into the bed beside Felix.

They lay in silence, back to back, breaths uneven. Felix could feel the heat radiating from Hyunjin, the closeness making his heart race.

After what felt like hours, Hyunjin whispered, his voice fragile in the dark: “Are you awake?”

Felix swallowed. “Yeah.”

Another stretch of silence. Then, softly: “I’m sorry for yelling.”

Felix’s throat tightened. “You were right. I needed to hear it.”

Hyunjin shifted, turning onto his side until Felix felt his breath on the back of his neck. “I don’t want to fight with you, Lixie. Not you.”

Felix closed his eyes, tears prickling again. “Then don’t leave me in the dark. Just… tell me when you’re hurting too.”

There was a pause, then the softest chuckle. “That’s rich, coming from you.”

Felix couldn’t help but laugh too, shaky and quiet. “Fair enough.”

Hyunjin hesitated, then reached out, his fingers brushing Felix’s wrist before sliding down to intertwine their hands. His grip was loose, tentative, like he was afraid Felix might pull away.

But Felix held on.

In the quiet, with nothing but the sound of their breathing, Hyunjin whispered words that felt more like a vow than a comfort:

“No matter what happens… you’re not alone. I’ll carry this with you. Always.”

Felix’s heart clenched, too full to speak. He squeezed Hyunjin’s hand tighter, whispering back: “Always.”

And in that fragile silence, with promises stitched between their fingers, Felix finally felt the pull of sleep—safe, for once, in the quiet.

CHAPTER 5: see you. IN THE QUIET

The roar of the crowd was deafening. Felix stood in the wings, chest tight, mic trembling slightly in his hand. The stage lights pulsed, waiting, demanding perfection. He’d told himself a thousand times that tonight he couldn’t afford to mess up. That every step, every move mattered.

But when he glanced sideways and saw Hyunjin standing just a few feet away, calm and steady despite the chaos, something inside him eased. Hyunjin caught his eye and smiled—small, barely there, but enough to ground him.

The music hit.

They moved as one, every beat syncing, every glance sharp. Felix felt the floor vibrate under his feet, the crowd screaming his name, but what mattered most was the way Hyunjin’s energy matched his own—like they were tethered, invisible strings pulling them together.

And when the chorus came, Felix nailed the part that had haunted him for weeks. His voice rang out, strong, his body flowing with the choreography in perfect time. Relief flooded him—but more than that, pride.

Across the stage, Hyunjin’s gaze flicked to him, just for a second, and Felix knew. He knew Hyunjin had seen it, had felt it. The corner of Hyunjin’s mouth lifted, the kind of smile meant only for him, even if thousands of eyes were watching.

The performance ended in thunderous applause, lights flashing, breaths ragged. The members bowed, waving, hearts racing. Felix’s chest heaved as he tried to take it all in.

Backstage, chaos erupted, staff buzzing, members laughing, adrenaline high. But through it all, Hyunjin found him.

“You killed it,” Hyunjin said, his voice soft but certain, cutting through the noise like it was only the two of them.

Felix blinked, breathless. “I… I did, didn’t I?”

Hyunjin grinned, pulling him into a quick hug that lingered just a moment too long. “Told you. You were never a step behind.”

Felix’s throat tightened, but this time it wasn’t with doubt. It was with something warmer, something that made his chest ache in the best way.

Later, in the dorm, exhaustion finally caught up with them. The world outside buzzed with videos and praise, but in their shared quiet, it was just two boys sitting side by side, legs tangled under the blankets.

Hyunjin reached over, absently braiding a strand of Felix’s hair, fingers gentle, movements slow. Felix laughed softly, leaning into the touch.

“Hyune,” he murmured, voice heavy with sleep. “Thanks… for staying.”

Hyunjin looked down at him, eyes soft. “Always, Lixie. See you in the quiet.”

Felix smiled, eyes fluttering shut. And for once, the quiet didn’t feel heavy; it felt like home.
