Despite the political tensions that are currently going on between Korea and Japan, many k-netz took to social media to express their disappointment and outrage of the fact that the 2019 MAMA will only be taking place in Japan and not Korea.

Comments:

“This isn't just a concert. It's an awards ceremony for our country's artists and they're doing that abroad? And in Japan? They must think all the citizens boycotting traveling in Japan as dogs and pigs. Do they have no pride? That our country isn't capable of selling tickets?"

"This is how money ruins a country."

"Any artist who participates in this event will be looked upon as traitors."

"Traitor... throwing away your own country for profit."

"CJ needs to be involved in being boycotted and get a taste of what they are reaping."

Any thoughts on the reactions?

Make peace not war.

It's just music, and Japan is an important market for kpop. You can see korean purchasing less albums than japanese even if the price is of another level. Thus MAMA is known to change country each year, it's for promoting kpop in Asia.

Kpop is the face for other business. So going against it, is going against the upper interrest of their country. Then who's the traitor ?

I agree. People are just so stupid these days! This is why I’m glad that many kpop groups have international fans to back up with, unlike Korean fans. Like what’s going on with Korean fans and netizens these days?? 😒

i'm not surprised they're reacting this way and i think their complaints are valid. the comment about participating artists being traitors is maybe a bit much.
considering the rising political tensions and mnet's current investigations, it seems unwise for them to hold MAMA in Japan, but mnet do whatever they please, so we'll see how that turns out.

I feel like they have have valid complaints, must feel awful and all, but isn't also a good experience to the idols and groups? They get to visit other places and promote themselves more, besides Japan is such a big market for kpop... Sometimes I feel like they react in such an immature way without considering that this is an industry and of course what matters the most is money and income.
They also have this huge nationalism thingy and feeling proud of their country and such, but South Korea as a whole also values a lot the expansion and they saw that through music they could make that on a whole another level that's not the same as through sports and such, so... Just let them be, y'all clowns 🤡
