At the end of 2nd gen and the beginning of 3rd gen kpop started to blow up...It got more recognized...as for 4th gen, more than Korea now international market is the main target (which is not bad)...
At this point of time reflection of western culture can be seen in kpop ,,, from collaboration with western artist to English lyrics...
And now Idols are drinking in front of camera.. there are now shows where idols get invited and drinks alcohol...
It's not far when kpop Idols will start taking drugs too like western artists ...

No, it’s just the fact that idols now typically have more freedom than previous generations. And if they want to drink alcohol, so what? They’re legal adults and that is their right. No one else gets to comment on that.

Of course that's true.... But the thing here is , they aren't just some random adults.. they are celebrity,. They have the power to influence people...I don't know what you think but Drinking isn't a good thing for health at all.... There is a saying 'Power comes with responsibility'... By their power to influence people they earn so much ( brands and advertisement )... So, they should be more cautious about their deeds and be responsible...

To me, it’s too much of a gray area to be able to say one or the other.
They are adults. They can drink if they want, as it’s completely legal. If they want to smoke and do drugs, stuff that might damage their health, that’s their decision too.
But, as mentioned above, there is the issue of fans being influenced to do similar things, thinking it’s cool and trendy. But this isn’t just a kpop issue. This is an issue with global celebrities and teenagers. Everyone seems so desperate to preserve kpop as this completely innocent and wholesome thing, and seem to blame the west for everything going wrong with it. Idols have probably been doing these things since the beginning of time, it’s only now we’re seeing more of it in front of the camera. I don’t see an easy solution to this. I wouldn’t like it if kpop ended up being like the western media where (mostly rappers) seem to get harmed every year because of drugs. And ofc teenagers will be influenced. But like, again, these are adults so who are we to stop them?

What you said was kinda like people are doing bad things but who are we to stop them...
Where We should actually stop them...
Doing drugs and alcohol is a global issue, but it wasn't much appreciated or practice in kpop or more like in asia.....And you accept it or It's true that these are influence of west....
Also everyone being so desperate to preserve kpop as completely innocent isn't Bad at all....
Wanting everyone to be healthy and stoping people influencing teens about drinking and all is a good thing....
About idols doing this since binging of the time , I am not saying idols to stop drinking,, all my problem is doing it publically,,when they know how much people follows them....

Actually, drinking in small amounts can be good for your health. Red wine is full of antioxidants, which actually decreases chance of disease. It also can be used as an anti-inflammatory, and studies have shown that adults who consumed wine moderately had a decreased inflammatory response (which is good).
As for beer, it has a ton of nutrients in it— vitamin B, proteins, phosphorus, etc. Just as wine does, it has anti-inflammatory properties.
And soju? Studies have shown that it actually reduces the risk of stroke. Also, mixing it with water has been known to help gut and digestion issues.
It‘s not a problem that idols are shown drinking. It’s how they teach others to drink that matters. And besides, teenagers can drink in other countries besides the U.S. In Germany, Belgium, and Denmark, those 16 and up can drink alcohol. 14 and 15 year olds may also drink undistilled alcohol such as wine or beer in Germany, if accompanied by a guardian.
It is not about the alcohol. It is about how you drink it. And if an idol is teaching others how to drink responsibly, then fine.

I would not consider the west to be an influence on kpop when it comes to alcohol consumption and the showing of it in media. In fact South Korea is the country that consumes the most hard liquor per day. https://www.aljazeera.com/features/...s also, friends together for drinking sessions.
So there is more of a culture when it comes to alcohol consumption and involving it in media. Think about all the idols who have been models in CFs for soju and how that is quite accepted and even an honor at times. Sure western media may have pushed it to the public more, but Korea's issue with alcohol has been present for a while and is not because of the west.
Regarding drugs, I'm sure a lot of idols are already taking drugs and we just don't know it. However, I feel there will be less influence to younger fans because of the way these idols are treated when they are found out. Think of he scandals surrounding B.I, Park Bom, Wonho, etc. I think the one exception is smoking cigarettes. That's also quite a prevalent thing in South Korea and young fans will do it regardless of if their idols are doing it too. But of course there is the chance that the west's culture around drugs seeps into South Korea more and we see more idols doing it and being more accepted for it. The future is unknown and we can only speculate in theories like these.

That's incorrect. Multiple studies have found that drinking alcohol will over time end up harming multiple parts of the body as well as the mental health of the person.

(tw// drinking, weight, birth, death)

1. The liver

a. One of the livers main tasks is to neutralize the toxic substances you consume. To drink alcohol would be to damage it. In many cases liver diseases are caused by alcohol intake. These are known as alcoholic liver diseases. An example of this would be the fatty liver

b. The fatty liver, as it sounds is when there is an excessive amount of fat inside your liver. It gradually develops in 90% of those who drink more than 1/2 ounce of alcohol each day.

c. Drinking can also result in your liver becoming inflamed. In many scenarios, the liver cells die and get replaced with scar tissue. This results in a serious condition called cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is extremely severe and causes many health problems. In many cases, you would have to have a liver transplant in order to live

2. The Brain/Mental Health

a. Ethanol reduces communication between brain cells a short-term effect is one of the symptoms of being drunk. Drinking may also lead to blackout. This includes memory loss/amnesia. These are temporary effects, but overconsumption of alcohol could cause permanent damage. Often leading to impaired brain function. This could increase the risk of dementia and cause brain shrinkage. In the worst case scenario, it would stop people from having a normal life.

b. Alcohol and depression seem to increase the risk of one another but alcohol is shown to be the stronger factor. People facing anxiety and depression would drink to reduce stress and improve mood. It could provide short term relief but worsen your overall mental health and start a vicious cycle.

3. Body Weight

a. Alcohol has the second most calories after fat. (around 7 calories per gram). Beer has around the same amount of calories as sugary soft drinks. Red wine has twice as much.

b. The studies often contradict each other but the conclusion made is that moderate drinking is linked to reduced weight gain, whereas heavy drinking is linked to increased weight gain.

4. The Heart

a. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in modern society. The most common of them are heart attacks and strokes. Drinking is found to increase the risk of heart disease

5. Others

a. Type 2 Diabetes

b. Cancer

c. Birth Defects

d. Death

e. Addiction

6. My Other Opinions

a. There is no way to drink responsibly unless you don't drink.

b. Idols should not drink/do drugs in public as there are many young people out there heavily influenced by them

c. Alcohol is not in the least healthy. I got plenty of lectures from my mom (a doctor) about this.

So, what should we do,,let continue or oppose it....
And let me tell you beforehand public opinion matters before you say what can we do.... like you can see how netizens can control Idols life... So, they should use these power to these kind of things rather than banning them from dating or being obsessed with the beauty culture...

I'm not entirely sure what you mean with your reply, but here's my response?
I think idols, and anyone for that manner, should do what they please as long as it's not harming them or others. I may not like it, but it's not fair to restrict someone's freedom if it is not harming anyone. However, like mentioned before, it's different for people who are in the public eye. I don't think it's fair to tell an idol to stop drinking because alcohol is such a big part of Korean culture. I think idols should continue to do what they are doing, and limit talk about alcohol. Yes idols can be an influence on their fans, but I don't think we should put all of the responsibility on them to make sure their fans don't consume a substance. If anything the individuals around them are a bigger influence to drink/do drugs compared to a asian celebrity they have never met.

I think you should read this article written by the Harvard School of Public Health, especially about the benefits.

Hey forum friends! 🌟 I understand your concern about the influence of idols and the potential for drug use. It's important for public figures to be mindful of their actions and set positive examples. If anyone, including idols, is struggling with drug addiction, seeking help is crucial. Places like drug rehab centers in Essex provide support and guidance. Let's encourage a culture of wellness and responsibility

As for your point about idols potentially taking drugs, it's a topic that should be approached with caution. The well-being of idols should always be a top priority, and if any such issues arise, it's crucial for the industry to provide support and guidance.

It's interesting to see how the Kpop industry has evolved over the years and how it's adapting to international markets. The influence of Western culture is indeed becoming more evident, from collaborations to English-language tracks.
The concern about idols drinking alcohol in front of the camera is worth discussing. It's essential to remember that the entertainment industry can put a lot of pressure on these young idols, and sometimes, these actions might be driven by the desire to break free from that pressure.
In cases where individuals may be struggling with substance abuse, intensive outpatient programs can be a helpful resource for treatment and recovery. It's essential to promote a healthy and supportive environment within the industry.
