barnacles are um LIVING CREATURES that latch onto sand dollars as their new homes! they permanently live on the sand dollar until they DIE. when they die the body gets decomposed or eaten. their shell stays on the sand dollar though! WELL unless they naturally pop off after the sand dollar grows .
