“The purpose of RE:VENGE Entertainment is simple,” states CEO Seo. “We wish to let our idols tell their stories through their music. No one is silenced here.”

If you recognize CEO Seo's name, you know that she used to be the CEO of PREP Entertainment. She helped create many groups, such as WHAM!88, RUBIX and Forever Winners. But when their subsidiary label KoolDown Entertainment went bankrupt, PREP went with it.

“I was devastated when my hard work went to waste because of the bad decisions made by KoolDown's employees,” Seo revealed in an interview with (F)K-Pop News. “I used what little I had left to build myself back up. I was betrayed by my best friend, but I'm not going to let myself be vulnerable like that ever again.”

When asked what her plans for RE:VENGE Entertainment were, Seo simply said: “I'm going to rebuild what was taken from me. I will debut groups just as popular as before, and we will make it to the top.”
Further plans for RE:VENGE have not been revealed, but we trust Seo Jiwoo won't fail to disappoint us when she decides how she's going to reclaim her crown as the manager of Korea's best girl groups

RE:VENGE Entertainment Chapter 1: A New Era
“The cameras will begin rolling in 3, 2, 1… Go!”

Jiwoo smiled as wide as she could, flinching a bit as the bright lights hit her. She wasn’t used to being onstage, but she hoped it wasn’t obvious. She needed to make a good impression if this was going to work.

“Hello everyone and welcome to (F)K-Pop news! I am your host, Park Jimin, and today we’ve got some exciting news for you!”

Jimin stood triumphantly as the audience in front of them cheered. Not only was this being broadcasted all over the world, but it was also being done in front of a live audience. That thought didn’t help Jiwoo’s anxiety, and a wave of panic hit her.

As Jimin sat down across from her, Jiwoo forced herself to breathe and look as professional as she could. They were on a cozy house set, with two white arm chairs facing each other, a coffee table in the middle. On the coffee table were two cups of tea that neither person had touched yet, as they were just for decoration.

“As you can see, I’ve got here with me Seo Jiwoo, former CEO of PREP Entertainment!” the audience began screaming, and Jiwoo politely waved to them. Her large smile was making her cheeks hurt, but she didn’t falter. She couldn’t, not when everything was riding on this.

Jimin gestured to the audience in an attempt to quiet them. Once they had gone silent, he turned to Jiwoo. “How are you today, Jiwoo?”

She let out a breath and turned to look at Jimin. “I’m doing wonderful! How about you?"

He laughed. “I’m doing pretty good. But enough of the small talk. I’m sure the audience is impatient to know what this impromptu interview is about. So why don’t you tell them, Jiwoo?”

Jiwoo turned her gaze to the audience. It wasn’t large, only about 50. But 50 people looking at her expectantly, waiting for her to give an amazing answer was still daunting.

“As you all know, I used to be the CEO of Korea’s most famous entertainment agency, PREP Entertainment,” Jiwoo said. Some members of the audience clapped politely, and Jiwoo smiled. A real smile this time, not the forced one that she’d had earlier. “We were the creators of several popular groups, such as WHAM!88, RUBIX and Forever Winner. I’m sure you’ve all at least heard one of those names.”
More cheering came, and Jiwoo knew she now had them hooked. Now she just had to deliver the killing line before they got bored.

“As of yesterday, I have opened a new label called RE:VENGE Entertainment."

The crowd began whispering to one another, but Jiwoo was lost for what to say next. She had delivered the news, but she wasn’t sure how to sell it. She knew people would be skeptical in hearing that she was now the CEO of another entertainment agency, two years after her last one had gone bankrupt.

“Exciting news, isn’t it?” Jimin piped up, noticing Jiwoo’s hesitance. “I know I’m ready to see whatever the brilliant mind who came up with Forever Winner’s storyline can come up with now.” Then he leaned in close, like he was sharing a secret. “Tell me, Jiwoo, what prompted you to open up another agency after your last one went bankrupt?”

She took a breath. She knew the answer to this. “When PREP went bankrupt, I was devastated that my hard work went to waste because of the bad decisions made by KoolDown's employees. I used what little I had left to build myself back up. I was betrayed by my best friend, but I'm not going to let myself be vulnerable like that ever again.”

She inwardly winced, feeling like she had gone a bit too deep. The answer had been honest, yes. The reason she had come back was because she knew the bankruptcy hadn’t been her fault. If she had never trusted Dohee, things would’ve ended differently.

Why had she ever trusted Dohee?

Jimin nodded, and the audience watched them in fascination. “So you’re telling me that the bankruptcy happened because of your subsidiary label? Tell me, how did that happen?”

How did that happen?

Jiwoo winced as the memories came flooding back.

A gap-toothed Dohee hanging over the fence between their houses, smiling at Jiwoo. Dohee playing a game with Jiwoo and her siblings, laughing at every funny comment made. Dohee and Jiwoo dancing together at their school’s winter formal, because Jiwoo’s date had left her for a different girl. Dohee at Jiwoo’s graduation, Jiwoo at Dohee’s. Dohee had even been at the grand opening of PREP Entertainment. She had been with Jiwoo for so long, so what had happened between them?

“You’ve inspired me, Jiwoo. I want to open up my own label, too. I’m calling it ‘KoolDown Entertainment’!”

The way Dohee had grinned at Jiwoo had melted her heart. It was impossible to say no when Dohee smiled like that. So Jiwoo had taken her hands and said:

“I’ll help you however I can.”

“She used me,” Jiwoo blurted in response to Jimin’s question. “Park Dohee, the founder of KoolDown Entertainment. I helped her create and build KoolDown Entertainment, using my own agency as its backbone. But it was always obvious Dohee didn’t know how to run her own label. Her groups slowly began to fall as mine rose. I tried to help her, but in the end, it was her incompetence that destroyed both of our labels. She put every last penny in our accounts into making her groups successful, but it didn’t work. When her company failed, my company was too weak to uphold for much longer so mine crumpled with it.”

Jimin nodded slowly. She could see him analyzing her story, deciding if he believed it or not. She knew Dohee had shared her own version of events months ago, but she had flipped all the blame onto Jiwoo, like she always did. Most of it was exaggerated, most of it was lies. But she knew people believed her and hated Jiwoo because of it. She just hoped Jimin wasn’t one of them.

Sure, she had left some things out of her story. But those were the personal things that didn’t apply to this scenario. Dohee and Jiwoo had been friends since we were pre-teens, so it was only natural that there would be personal trauma related to their professional lives.

But Dohee hadn’t told anyone about that stuff, so neither would she.

Finally, Jimin nodded, and Jiwoo let out a relieved breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.

“It appears we’re almost out of time. For my last question, I wish to know…” Jimin paused to add a dramatic effect. That was his favorite thing to do during interviews, and one of the reasons people found him so entertaining. “What are your plans for RE:VENGE Entertainment?”

That answer was easy. “I'm going to rebuild what was taken from me. I will debut groups just as popular as before, and we will make it to the top.”

Jimin raised an eyebrow. “Is that your final answer?”

“Yes.”

“So… What is the purpose of RE:VENGE Entertainment, other than to be, you know, revenge?”
This question caught Jiwoo off guard. “I thought you said that you said that question was the last question.”

The audience gave a laugh, and Jimin chuckled along with them. “Yes, but I’m curious now. How do you wish to win back the hearts of your old fans?”

“Well…” Jiwoo began, then ran with her practiced answer, since she knew this question was going to come up eventually. “The purpose of RE:VENGE Entertainment is simple. We wish to let our idols tell their stories through their music. No one is silenced here.”

Jimin slowly grinned as her words sank in. “I really like that, Jiwoo. I think you have an enticing offer here, and I’m definitely excited to see how this plays out. Hopefully this new company will have as much success as PREP did.”

“Thank you,” Jiwoo said softly. Jimin stood up and made some closing remarks to the audience, but Jiwoo didn’t pay any attention to them.
She thought the interview had gone well, but she couldn’t be sure until she saw people’s opinions about it.

Once the interview was over, she did the formalities, gave her goodbyes, then stepped outside. She had come alone and would leave alone. Any friends she had once had she’d lost, and her company was still empty. It consisted of Jiwoo and Jiwoo only.

She walked over to her car and slid into the driver’s seat. She pulled out her phone, which had received two notifications over the past five hours she’d been away from it. The first one was a calendar reminder for her interview, the second was a link to a newspaper article sent by her sister. She opened it, knowing it would either lead to news of a K-Pop group disbanding or going on tour. But the heading surprised her.

“Kim Dohee, former CEO of KoolDown Entertainment, opens up a new label, sources say.”

Dohee? Seriously? Jiwoo groaned and rubbed her head. How was she always two steps ahead?

She threw her phone into the passenger seat and ran a hand through her messy brown hair.

“Well, it looks like the game has begun,” she whispered to no one in particular. “And I will do all I can to win.”

RE:VENGE Entertainment Chapter 2: The Girl in the Alley
Jiwoo stood on the balcony of her apartment, looking down at the streets below. It had been two days since the interview, and the press was going insane. People had already begun to take sides. She already had three of the most popular entertainment agencies in her corner, which she found surprising. She hadn’t thought support would be coming in so quickly.

Dohee, of course, had found her own support. She had revealed her label the day after Jiwoo. Jiwoo had known Dohee wouldn’t take her time, but she was already at a running pace. Apparently, she already had a new group in the works.

Jiwoo sighed and looked down at the city below her. It was late at night, yet the city was still wide awake. Cars zoomed down the road, pedestrians made their rounds on the sidewalk, and the lights from buildings around them lit up the world.

She knew she should be working, but she had hit a roadblock in her company’s development. She had the staff, and they were ready to work. But what she didn’t have was trainees or any idea about what to do for a group. That was the problem.

She’d been spiraling for days, trying to figure out a killer concept for RE:VENGE’s first group. It had to be unique, but not so unique that the concept went right over everyone’s heads and they lost interest before the group’s first comeback.

The problem was, it seemed like every debut concept had been taken. Some worked better than others, and she wasn’t sure which one would be the best idea to start with.

She ran a hand through her already messy hair and leaned on the railing of the balcony. If she didn’t have something soon, she’d have to call it quits. There would be no way to keep her company staffed without any means of making money. She wondered if she began looking for trainees first instead of focusing on the group, one of them would spark an idea. That had happened before.

So she straightened and headed inside when she saw a large flash of light coming from the alley next to the apartment complex. She froze and turned towards where it had come from, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The city was still in full roar below her. No one had even stopped to investigate what was happening.

But Jiwoo was intrigued. Without a second thought, she threw on a jacket and ran outside.

It took her a minute to get downstairs, and she wondered if she had already missed what had made that large flash. When she reached the alley, it was completely empty. She shook her head and realized her sleep deprivation was probably making her go insane.

But when she turned around to leave, a second flash happened. She didn’t waste any time in running towards where the light had come from. It was around the back of the alley, behind the apartment building. She stopped when she reached the place where the light had come from. But instead of a light source, all she found was a small, sickly girl with worn clothing crying on the sidewalk.

Jiwoo slowly approached the girl, who didn’t bother to look up. She continued weeping into her tiny hands, her frail form shaking with each sob. As she got closer to the girl, she felt the temperature plummet. This caused her to pause and look around. She wrapped her jacket tightly around herself as the temperature continued to plummet.

She looked back at the girl, who had stopped sobbing and was looking at Jiwoo. After a moment of processing, Jiwoo realized the child was actually looking at something behind her.

Jiwoo didn’t have time to turn around as footsteps approached behind her. The footsteps disappeared, and Jiwoo gasped as a girl landed in front of her. This girl was older than the child who had been sobbing, either in her late teens or early twenties.

“Don’t worry, I’ll deal with her,” the girl looked back at Jiwoo, winked, then turned back to the young girl.

She moved in a blur, her blonde hair whipping around as she picked up a book that had been lying on the ground, tossed it in the air, and caught it again. She pointed it at the child, who was no longer sobbing. Instead, she was staring at this newcomer with a look of pure hatred.

Jiwoo took a step back, unsure of what to do. Something about these girls felt off. They both looked normal, but she knew looks could be deceiving. Something else was happening, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to stick around and find out what or run away.

The choice was made for her as a pile of dead branches that had been placed near the building’s garbage bins caught fire. Jiwoo yelped and jumped away. She looked around to see the source of the fire and saw that it had come from the child.

Except the child had changed. Instead of the sad child that had been crying a moment before, she was now an angry entity. Jiwoo wasn’t sure what else to call her other than “entity”... Her skin was pale, slightly see-though, and she was hovering a few inches off the ground. Instead of the tattered garments she had been wearing, she was now dressed in a long red dress. Her long black hair floated around her face, but it parted for a small moment, just long enough for Jiwoo to see the most terrifying part about this child: she had no face.

Jiwoo screamed and fell to the ground. She huddled near the wall of the apartment complex, her brain screaming at her to run. But she couldn’t seem to move. She just sat there as flames engulfed the two girls.

The fire child launched a fireball at the older girl, but she held out the book and caught the flame at that. Instead of lighting on fire, the book seemed to absorb the flames.

Smoke curled around the child as the edges of her dress and the tips of her hair caught fire. The flames didn’t seem to come from the fireballs she was throwing around, but it seemed to come from within her. She held up a hand and launched three more fireballs at the blonde girl, who used her book to catch them all. She almost missed the last one, and it grazed her hand as it hit the book.

The book fell to the ground as the girl yelped in pain. The fiery child grinned and pointed at the book, which immediately disintegrated into dust. Then she turned to the now unarmed teenager, who had started cursing when the book turned to flames.

She turned to Jiwoo and offered a sheepish smile. “You wouldn’t happen to have any books on you, would ya?”

Jiwoo slowly shook her head. The girl spoke English, which Jiwoo understood well enough, but it just added to the surreal feeling this entire scenario had. The girl sighed and was about to say something else when a fireball was launched at her. She had just enough time to jump out of the way as it exploded where she had just been standing.

“Okay, we’re doing this the hard way then!” she yelled at the child, then ran to the pile of ashes that had been the book. The child screamed and rushed at the girl.

The older girl scooped up a handful of ashes and continued running as the child chased after there. Jiwoo noticed that the child seemed to just be floating along, and she couldn’t seem to catch up with how fast the other girl was running.

The older girl tossed half of the ashes at the child, who screamed as they hit her skin. Wherever the particles landed, small holes opened up in the girl. Jiwoo wondered if she was some kind of ghost, or if this was all just a stress dream.

The ashes gave the girl enough time to stop and focus on the remaining ashes in her hand. She stood there for a moment, staring down at the dusty particles in her hands. Jiwoo watched her curiously, then gasped in amazement as a new book grew out of the ashes. The girl grabbed it victoriously, then took off towards the now-recovered child.

The child screamed as the two rushed at each other. Jiwoo closed her eyes, terrified of witnessing what was going to happen. Were both girls about to die? One had a book, and the other had fire powers. It was obvious who was going to win the fight. This wasn’t how Jiwoo had expected to spend her night, and a faint thought popped into her brain, wondering if she was also going to die. Would the child kill her as well, once she was done with the crazy teenage girl?

She kept her eyes closed for a few more minutes, her fear keeping them from opening. She knew that at any moment, she would be engulfed in flames. She could smell the smoke of the fire already raging around her, hear the crackle of the flames and she could even feel the sting of some stray embers that had landed on her skin.

"Hey, lady, are you alright?” the sound of a high-pitched feminine voice and the snapping of fingers surprised Jiwoo. She quickly opened her eyes, and looked up to see the teenage girl standing over her. It took her a second to realize that the teenager was the only thing left of the strange events that had just taken place. The fires were all put out, everything was undamaged, and the child was gone.

Jiwoo opened her mouth, but no sounds had come out. The girl gave her a concerned look. “I know, your first encounter with a ghost can be terrifying. But don’t worry, you’re alright! Abigail is back where she belongs; she won’t be bugging you anymore.” The girl held up the book she had been fighting the child with. On the cover was the small child from earlier with the words: The Imaginers: Abigail, Written by Vanilla Star. She grinned at Jiwoo, who was still at a loss for words.

“Why don’t you come with me?” the girl suddenly said, then offered Jiwoo a hand. Jiwoo hesitated for a second, and all her instincts screamed not to trust the girl. But she was a naturally curious person, and this experience had intrigued her. So Jiwoo found herself taking the girl’s hand, ready to follow her wherever.

RE:VENGE Entertainment Chapter 3: Parallel Dimensions
The world warped around them, making Jiwoo stumble as a wave of dizziness hit her. She stumbled, but the blonde girl caught her arm before she could fall. The world returned to normal, revealing that they were still in the alleyway. Yet something felt different. Jiwoo staggered, a wave of nausea hitting her.

“Woah, sorry about that,” she laughed, helping Jiwoo steady herself. “I forget how disorienting it can be to Dimension Jump for the first time.”

“Who are you?” Jiwoo mumbled, holding her head as the world spun around her. She swayed again, and reached out to the wall beside her to stop herself from falling.

The girl smacked her forehead with the palm of her hand. “Oh, right! Sorry, I always forget to introduce myself! My name is Vanilla Star. But you can call me Nilla!” she grinned at Jiwoo, then faltered when she saw how disoriented she looked. “Oh, um, don’t worry, my girlfriend has a cure for Dimension Jumping sickness! Come on, I’ll take you to her!”

Nilla looped an arm around Jiwoo and pulled her towards the front of the building.

“Seriously, what’s going on?” Jiwoo asked, feeling like reality was falling apart. First there was a child throwing fire, and now Dimension Jumping? What even was that? Jiwoo was hoping this was just one long, terrible fever dream and she would wake up at any moment in her bed.

“We’ll explain everything once your mind recovers from jumping. If I try to explain it now, it will just go right over your head!” Nilla grinned at Jiwoo. They arrived at the front of Jiwoo’s building, which looked vastly different than it had a moment ago. Instead of a large skyscraper with various balconies and windows, it was a gray brick building with the words “StoryTeller Society” engraved over the wall of the building.

“That’s not my building…” Jiwoo muttered, stumbling as Nilla pulled her inside.

“No, it’s not. In your world, this place is a normal apartment building. But in my world, it’s the headquarters of the STS.”

Nilla helped Jiwoo through the lobby and to the elevator. She pressed the button for the 7th floor while Jiwoo leaned against the wall, still in a daze. The world had stopped spinning, but she still felt nauseous and her head hurt whenever Nilla said something to add onto Jiwoo’s confusion.

Finally, the elevator dinged and Nilla led Jiwoo to a door. Jiwoo leaned on the wall as Nilla knocked on the door, then took a step back to wait. A few seconds later, the door opened and a short girl wearing an oversized hoodie opened the door. She appeared to be around Nilla’s age, although her short stature made her seem a lot younger.

“Oh, you’re back… How’d it go?” the girl asked, and Nilla handed her the book with a wink.

“I caught her, of course. Did you have any doubts about it?”

The girl took the book and studied the cover, then looked up at Nilla. “Yes. Yes I did.”

Nilla made a face at her, and the girl laughed.

“But there was a slight complication,” Nilla muttered, then pulled Jiwoo into the doorway. “This was Abigail’s victim, uh… What was your name again?”

“Jiwoo. Seo Jiwoo,” she straightened up and crossed her arms, trying to hide her lack of understanding behind a facade of confidence.

“She saw everything, so I brought her here!” Nilla finished.

The other girl sighed and opened the door. “Alright, come in. I’ll start brewing the tea.”

“Wait, but I-” Jiwoo began, but Nilla pushed her through the door.

“Go sit down, we’ll explain everything in a minute!” Nilla gestured to the living room, then followed her girlfriend into what Jiwoo assumed was the kitchen. Jiwoo watched the door shut behind them, then hesitantly sat down on one of the armchairs in the living room.

It was a nice apartment, much better than where Jiwoo lived. It was large, spacious and airy. Large windows let in the sunlight, which highlighted the white furnishings of the place. On the wall opposite of Jiwoo was an array of portraits, both small and large. She studied them as she waited for the girls to return. She recognized Nilla and the other girl in many of them and was surprised to see how young they looked in some of them. She realized they had known each other for a while.

She was studying a picture of an Asian girl whose right eye was a mixture of red, orange and yellow in the picture when the girls came back in. Nilla hopped onto the couch across from Jiwoo while her girlfriend delicately placed a tray of tea and assorted snacks onto the table in between them. Then she tossed her long, curly brown hair over her shoulder and sat down next to Nilla.

Nilla picked up a cookie, then used it to point to the tea pot. “Drink some of that. It’ll help with the nausea.”

Jiwoo looked at the spread before her, then followed Nilla’s advice. She poured herself a cup and took a small sip, surprised when the effects were immediate. Her headache cleared and the world came back into focus.

“See? It helps!” Nilla laughed as Jiwoo downed the rest of the drink. The girl beside her cracked a smile before returning to her serious demeanor.

“I imagine Nilla took you by surprise when she brought you here,” she said, staring at Jiwoo with an intense gaze. “But it needed to be done, after what happened. Now tell me, what exactly did you see happen?”

Jiwoo thought for a moment, unsure of how to answer. The last hour had been a blur, and she wasn’t sure whether it was all a hallucination or if it was real. So she merely told the girl, “I saw Nilla fight off a burning child with a book.”

The two exchanged a look, and Nilla laughed.

“Close enough,” the girl rubbed her forehead, then sighed. “My name’s Hanni Bradshaw, a member of the Return to Reality Team at the STS. It’s my job to protect people like you from the threats of the fictional world.”

“...What?”

“Have you ever heard the theory about parallel dimensions?” Hanni asked her. Jiwoo nodded.

“Yes, but I thought those just existed in fantasy!”

This time, both Hanni and Nilla cracked up. Jiwoo looked between the two young women, exasperated. What was so funny about what she had said?

“Where do you think you are now?” Hanni asked, trying to stifle her giggles but failing. “You think burning children appear in real life? No. What you saw was an apparition named Abigail. A ghost, if you will. She exists purely in a dimension made of completely fantastical ideas, but lately, those dimensions have been breaking down and their contents have been escaping into the real world. Your world.”

Jiwoo opened her mouth to say something, but Hanni shook her head. “Let me explain. Hundreds of years ago, there was only one Earth. The humans on that Earth were boring and unimaginative. Then, they began to think. They thought beyond the realm of what was real, and began to question what wasn’t. When their imaginations came into play, they started to create things. All these things became alternate Earths or different worlds that split off from our own. These worlds all lived separately, until the parallel dimensions began to break down one day. Their contents began escaping into the real world, creating panic and chaos. Any mythology you see today is based on true facts about what happened when these fantastical beings escaped into the real world.

“After hundreds of years of this, we finally found a way to put the fantastical back where they belonged. Three humans with strong imaginations stepped up to create the STS, or the StoryTeller Society. They created a way to keep the dimensions from unraveling. Today, we call those books.”

“So, wait,” Jiwoo interrupted, and Hanni gave her an annoyed look. “Books are the only things keeping my world from being consumed by mythical monsters?”

“Yeah, basically,” Nilla shrugged, reaching for a third cookie. Hanni gave her a look, but continued with her story.

“Yes. They stuck these beings into various stories, and the strict outlines of those stories kept them in their places. The STS then created a new, fantastical Earth to send what remained of the unchecked mythics to it. Hundreds of years of mythics roaming around caused them to mix with the nonfictionals. All the halflings were sent to this new world with the imaginations while all the boring people were left in the real world. It worked perfectly, until a few years ago.”

“What happened a few years ago?” Jiwoo asked, now engaged since she was finally beginning to understand what was going on. A little bit. It was an interesting story, at least.

“A strong imaginer was born. Her ideas were large enough to create cracks in the worlds they created. Fortunately for now, it seems that only their ideas have been escaping. But the cracks have spread from the fictional Earth to the nonfictional Earth as well. That’s why you ran into Abigail. She escaped the protections we placed around your world and has been causing chaos there for a few weeks now. You’re her third target.”

“What was that thing that attacked me?” Jiwoo asked, shudders running through her as she remembered the fiery child.

“Abigail is a ghost. She died in a house fire, which is why she can manipulate flames. She has a twin sister named Caitlyn who died by drowning,” Nilla explained.

“Let me guess, Caitlyn is a water demon?” Jiwoo raised an eyebrow. Nilla nodded.

“Ghost, not demon, but basically,” Hanni nodded.

The three went silent. Nilla nibbled on another cookie, Hanni fiddled with a charm bracelet, and Jiwoo became lost in her thoughts. This was all a lot to take in, but it was also so compelling. It didn’t feel like it was happening to Jiwoo personally, it felt more like one of those 2nd person pick-the-plot books she always read when she was a kid.

It was also an intriguing idea for a group. Ghosts? Dimension Jumpers? A StoryTeller Society? It would make amazing lore for a group. But to make it really work, Jiwoo first had to know more.

“You said Abigail targeted me specifically. Why?” Jiwoo asked. Hanni answered.

“Ghosts target people who have hit rock bottom and need a way to gain happiness in their lives. They prey on insecurities and then take your body once you’ve given yourself to them,” she explained.

“So if I had come later, you’d be dead by now!” Nilla winked at Jiwoo.

“I don’t fit the criteria of their targets, though,” Jiwoo raised an eyebrow. “I haven’t hit ‘rock bottom’ or whatever it is that you said.”

“You must have some problem going on right now, or else she wouldn’t have targeted you,” Hanni shrugged. Nilla nodded.

“It could be anything, honestly. Anxiety, depression, a large problem weighting on you. They’ll promise a solution and you’ll take it because you’re desperate for an answer.”

“Well, I guess I do have a problem that fits that criterion, but it’s not a terrible problem!”

“Does it cause you anxiety?” Hanni asked.

“Yes?”

“Then it fits the criteria.”

Jiwoo sighed.

“Well, if you want to know for sure, you could always tell us what the problem is and we could tell you if it is large enough for a ghost to be attracted to it,” Nilla said.

“Well, I’ve just been hitting a brick wall in my creative abilities, I guess. I just opened up a new entertainment agency after my last one failed, and I have no idea what to do for a killer debut concept for my first group. It seems like all my ideas left when I lost my old company.”

Hanni and Nilla exchanged a look.

“I may have a solution for your problem,” Nilla said. “If you’re willing to hear me out.”

“At this point I’ll take anything.”

Jiwoo wasn’t sure how much Nilla could help her, but she was willing to take suggestions at this point. Time was running out and she still had nothing, so at most she could at least hear what Nilla had to say.

“Great!” Nilla grinned. “What type of entertainment agency do you run? Like, what genre is it?”

“Um… K-Pop?” Jiwoo raised an eyebrow, wondering what Nilla was thinking.

Nilla clapped. “Even better! If you want a group, I know the perfect people to be a part of it!”

RE:VENGE Entertainment Chapter 4: The Author
“I need an idea for a group, not members for it,” Jiwoo said, although she technically needed both. She just didn’t want these two to know how badly thought out everything was becoming.

"The members fit the concept,” Nilla said. “You’re currently in a world with people who are amazing at imagining stories. I know a person who can give you a concept with complete lore surrounding it, and I know people who would be amazing at acting it out.”

Jiwoo considered it. Hanni and Nilla watched her expectantly while she did so, hopeful that she would say yes. After a few minutes, Jiwoo spoke again.

“Who’s this person who can give me the lore?”

“Oh, her name’s Penni. She’s our author,” Nilla said. “She lives in your world. A few books about us are floating around over there, and they were all written by her.”

“Are you sure she’ll help me?”

“Oh, yes, she will,” Nilla gave her a grin that sent shivers down her spine. “If you ask her really nicely, then she will.”

~~~
“No,” the door slammed shut on the three immediately. Nilla stood in the doorway, still grinning, her hand still up in a knocking pose.
“I thought you said she was going to help!” Jiwoo tapped her foot impatiently, glaring up at the house this “Penni” lived in. It wasn’t as big as Jiwoo expected, but it was still a nice house for a single woman who wrote books for a living. Jiwoo wondered just how successful her books were and how she’d never heard of them before.
“I thought she would…” Nilla winced and rubbed the back of her neck. “I guess she’s still mad at me.”
“You ‘guess’?” Hanni scoffed.
“The moment she saw you, she slammed the door in your face! We didn’t even get to ask her if she would help!”
“What did you do to make her so angry?” Jiwoo asked Nilla, who looked away nervously.
“It’s not important right now,” Hanni sighed. “Maybe we should’ve sent you here alone.”
“What was your idea of group members?” Jiwoo asked, wondering if that idea was any better than the Penni one.
“Everyone from our book!” Nilla grinned.
“What? Like… The ghosts?”
Hanni and Nilla both made a face at her. Nilla’s was one of confusion, while Hanni’s was one of disgust.
“Not the ghosts, silly!” Nilla said, pulling out the book she had shown Jiwoo earlier. She flipped to a page at the end, then showed it to Jiwoo. The page was a list of all the characters featured in the book. Nilla pointed out eight of them: Lindzy, Ayla, Kiri, Briella, Saki, Hanni and herself. “Us, the female main characters of the book!”
“Female main characters, huh?” Jiwoo muttered, taking the book from Nilla and reading over the character’s descriptions. “I’d need to see how talented you all are first.”
“Naturally,” Nilla said. “But trust me, we all have talents in one way or another.”
“Most of us have at least some background in music,” Hanni said. “I can’t say for everyone, but I’ve seen Saki perform before and she’s amazing.”
“Saki is her older sister,” Nilla muttered to Jiwoo.
Jiwoo looked up from the book and handed it back to Nilla. “Next Tuesday, anytime between sunrise to sunset. Bring everyone to my apartment complex. I’m in apartment B14, you can just head straight up to it. In the meantime,” Jiwoo looked up at the house that stood before them. “I’ll start looking for a group manager.”
“Perfect!” Nilla squealed, then hugged Hanni, who blushed.
“She’s always wanted to be a performer…” Hanni explained to Jiwoo.
“So this was all in her self-interest, huh?” Jiwoo smirked, and Hanni nodded. “Well, if you guys have talent, then it’s not a terrible idea. If Penni can give me a good group idea, or actually talk to me, then I think we’ll be all set.”
“Return later without us, and I’m sure she’ll talk to you,” Hanni said, and Jiwoo nodded.
“Next Tuesday. Be there.”
~~~

Two days later, Jiwoo stood outside Penni’s house again. It was later in the day, so she hoped the author was at home. The lights inside the house were on, so Jiwoo hoped she would get some response as she knocked on the door.

A few seconds passed before the door slowly creaked open. A woman around Jiwoo’s age stood in the doorway, looking at Jiwoo with exasperation. She had dark circles under her green eyes, her brown hair was pulled up into a messy bun, and she wore an oversized hoodie. Her appearance shocked Jiwoo, as she was expecting someone who looked more professional. She’d only gotten a glimpse of the author the last time she had come, but she didn’t remember her looking so… Messy.

“Are you here for a reason or are you going to continue staring at me?” Penni raised an eyebrow, snapping Jiwoo out of her thoughts.

“Oh, yes,” Jiwoo cleared her throat, trying to hide her embarrassment. “My name is Seo Jiwoo, of RE:VENGE Entertainment-”

“Hey you were there when those two troublemakers came around two days ago!” Penni gasped, pointing accusingly at Jiwoo. “Don’t tell me you’re here to rope me into another ******* mission!”

“What?” Jiwoo stared at Penni, confused.

“I wrote the book like they told me to! What else do you guys want from me?”

“Um… I want you to help me manage a K-Pop group?” Jiwoo offered, and Penni’s entire demeanor changed from one of anger to shock.

“What?”

Jiwoo straightened. “I was told by those, uh… ‘Troublemakers’ that you could help me write some lore for my upcoming girl group.”

“Is this a trick?”

Jiwoo shook her head. “It’s not.”

“Good, because those children know how much I love K-Pop, and if they’re tricking me, I’m unpublishing all of their books!”

“Is that even possible?” Jiwoo asked, then shook her head. “Never mind. Don’t answer that. So you know what I’m asking, then?”

“Yeah, I do,” Penni nodded. “But that makes it all the more suspicious. Why ask some lowly author to write you some lore when you could get anyone?”

“Nilla recommended you, at at the moment I’m out of options. No one wants to work for me after my old company went up in flames.”

Penni gasped and snapped her fingers. “That’s why you look so familiar! You’re the CEO of PREP!”

“You know PREP?” Jiwoo asked her.

“Everyone knows PREP! Wait, so, you have a new company?”

Jiwoo nodded. Penni squealed. “I’d love to work for you! I’ll write lore, be a group manager, whatever you want!”

“Really? That would be amazing, actually…”

“I can also get you connected to some others! Do you have any employees so far?”

“A couple. I have a few of my old PREP employees, but they’re mostly fashion consultants or coaches.”

Penni nodded. “I see. So you need some managers then, and possibly some songwriters?”

“Yes. That would be amazing.”

“Okay, okay, I think I’ve got something. I can have everything for you in a week, so come back then. I can supply group members and some employees. I’ll also make you an entire group concept plus a few albums. Does that sound good?”

Jiwoo lit up and she broke into a grin. “That would be perfect! So I’ll come back next Saturday, then?”

“Yes… Actually, could I get your number? I’ll text you when I’m ready.”

“Yeah, yeah, of course!”

The two exchanged contact information. When they were done, Jiwoo grinned at Penni.
“Seriously, this is amazing! Thank you! You have no idea how helpful this all is!”

Penni winked at her. “It’s no problem, I live for things like this. If I can make some extra cash off this project, then that would make it even better.”

“We’ll discuss payment next time,” Jiwoo said, making a mental note to figure out her budget. “But I will definitely pay you.”

Penni stuck out her hand, and Jiwoo shook it.

“Then this partnership is official.”
