Soโฆlast night after I gave my daughter her shower, I was getting her dressed and she said to me โmommy, did my dad pass out?โ And I asked her to repeat herself and she did, but I thought she was saying something else, so I asked her to explain and she said โdid he go to sleep.โ And I realized what she was saying, and I said โyeah, baby, he passed out.โ And she goes โah, no, I didnโt want him to pass out.โ And like put her head in her hands & did a dramatic sigh.
it almost made me cry because sheโs starting to get to that age where sheโs asking about her dad now. Sheโll be 5 in July. This June will make 5 years since her dad was murdered & Iโve never mentioned it to her before, when her dad has been brought up, we just say โheโs just not with us any longerโ but we havenโt used the words โpassed on/out/awayโ or anything like that.
I know Iโll have to tell her the truth one day, but Iโm hoping it will be when sheโs a bit older, say 11-13 somewhere around there, where she can understand and grasp the situation better.
It was just a weird experience to me last night, especially since she said it out of the blue.
